The Perfect Jean

The most common question or concern I frequently hear is, "Where can I find the perfect jean?" I spent many years at war with my jeans. In my early 20's, I thought the only way to wear them was "designer." I had to be rocking the latest "7 for all Mankind" jeans at any cost. With maturity and the evolution of the skinny jean, I realized that didn't have to be the case. As moms, not only are we on a strict budget, but we also survive on comfort. For a while I was resorting to stores like Old Navy and Forever 21 out of convenience and price. I was taking the easy way out and I didn't feel content. They were always too long, too tight, or too baggy and the quality, inconsistent. I was in a complete "jeans rut." It was time for change!

Step 1: Figure out your style and cut: This may require a few trips to the store. Yes ladies, online will not suffice!! While some body types are best suited for flare or boot cut, others may feel better in a more relaxed fit, such as the boyfriend jean. I have quickly learned that the infamous skinny jean suits me best!

Step 2: Figure out the best length: If you inherited the short gene like myself, jean shopping becomes even more tricky. For the longest time I was paying for alterations or cuffing away. Finally, I did my research and found stores that offered petite and short options. It has made all the difference! If you are on the opposite end of the spectrum and have legs for days (I hate you!), opt for stores that offer longer length options. I promise it will make life so much easier.

Step 3: Shop: My go-to-store for jeans has become American Eagle Outfitters. I am obsessed with their jeggings. They not only stretch but they feel less like a jean and more like a legging. Hence the "clever" name! As moms, the coveted leggings are our life line. Not anymore. Now you can have the same comfort as a legging but a much trendier look. They are designed to hold your shape and hug your curves! Once you establish your size and style, the war with jeans will end in a peaceful truce!

Now that online boutiques are dominating the world, unique clothing options and styles are at our disposal. I follow so many great boutiques with spectacular models who really create a picture of the final product. With their height and size measurements on hand, its getting easier to order online. Dottie Couture Boutique and Vici Collection, are two names you will get very familiar with as you continue to partake in my daily fashion adventures. I am obsessed, particularly, with Vici's Piper Jeggings. They are a godsend! These moto jeggings have ankle zipper detail and a thick elastic waistband. They offer a great fit and stretch and vary in color. Chic and affordable, I promise you will thank me later!!!

Lastly, if online boutiques frighten you, I recommend heading to department stores such as Nordstrom, Bloomingdale's, or Lord & Taylor. They are bound to have a plethora of sizes, styles, and a sale's assistant on hand to help:)

Here's to happy shopping and a newfound love for your jeans!!!!
