I often find myself listing the pros and cons of social media on a daily basis. It's hard not to re-evaluate your life and happiness when you see so many on Facebook with successful jobs, beautiful families, and a very lavish lifestyle. I like to call this the "social media facade." While this is enough to disconnect completely, for me the pros outweigh the cons. Social media has allowed me to put myself out there in a positive manner and venture into the world of styling and fashion on a whole new level. It has enabled me to re-connect with old friends and family while offering me an outlet to create new friendships and relationships along the way.
This week was a perfect example of the power of social media. An old friend from childhood recently contacted me via Instagram. She just became a mommy for the first time (to an adorable baby girl) and decided it was time to take some new "calculated risks." She developed a love for photography over the past few years and has turned her passion and talents into a business. Talk about inspiring. Our names aren't our only similarity! Nicole, like myself, came to the realization that life is way too short not to take chances. Good things come to those who work for them.
NKB Photo is a lifestyle and portrait photographer in NYC and beyond. Her pictures are exquisite. Needles to say, when she suggested we meet up and take some photos for my blog, I was beyond thrilled with her offer. The idea of wearing my clothes and parading around the city was perfection! Everyone knows my love affair with NYC. Everything about it makes me jovial, not to mention that it's the fashion capital of the world! This was going to be an unforgettable adventure.
The weather Gods were on our side that day. It turned out to be a beautiful 60 degree winter day! The forecast predicted a blizzard beginning that night, but the afternoon was far from tempestuous. I brought 7 looks representative of spring. Thankfully because of the weather, I was able to showcase them without turning blue from the cold! The first thing I immediately noticed about Nicole, was how impeccable and detail oriented she was. She studied my blog and previous photo styles intensely and made sure to choose locations conducive to that style. She wanted her pictures to replicate my platform. I was impressed by how well she implemented that and took the time to get to know me. First impressions are key and she had won me over. We had such a nice day getting to know one another along the way. Our last shot was in Central Park. Walking throughout the park, I felt so comfortable and at ease with her. It became evident at that moment that this was just the beginning for the both of us!
Thank you NKB Photo for your time, dedication, and talent. I am already mapping out my outfits for our next adventure!!!
