How did this happen? I am officially 36 and it's quite daunting. Does 36 mean I can no longer shop in Forever 21? Do I have to cave and wear the stereotypical "mom" jeans. Are shorts a no-no and a tankini the only style bathing suit officially permitted on the beach? The answer to all of these questions is absolutely NOT, unless the dreaded "mom" jeans really do appeal to you!!!! Age is nothing but a number. We should not conform or throw in the towel just because another birthday passed. Let's not forget, another year older means another year wiser. Not to mention a much more confident self. While short shorts and tube tops obviously are no longer age appropriate ( I am not sure they ever were), that certainly doesn't mean you must succumb when you turn 30. You can be on trend and fashionable at any age!

I have had some inquiries on what staple items I suggest for those women who have escaped maternity world and have once again entered the land of the living! These are my 25 recommended essentials:

1. The Perfect Jean: It may take months to find, but when you do, it will be worth the wait. Whether it be skinny, flared, or boyfriend, when you find "your" jean everything else falls into place.

2. A Neutral Pump: I know that pumps aren't functional on a daily basis, but they are such an essential shoe to have. They will be your best friend over the years and stay by your side through every season. Paired with jeans, skirts, or trousers they will never fail you. They add that extra height and give every outfit a classic finishing touch.

3. A Blazer: Even if you don't work in an office, a fitted blazer to accentuate your silhouette and flatter your body is a must. They are very versatile and can be dressed up or down. I recommend getting an item like this tailored to fit your body. It's worth the money to have the perfect fit. Plus, a basic blazer will stand the test of time.

4. A Scarf: They are a chic accessory that instantly upgrades an outfit. It may be beneficial to have a heavier infinity or blanket scarf for sweaters in the colder months and opt for a light weight or silky one in the warmer months.

5. A Great Pair of Sunglasses: Let's face it! There are just some days we feel like going incognito. Investing in a fun pair of sunglasses is the perfect way to achieve this. Why not splurge a little. These are for the long haul!

6. A Great Solid Blouse: A slinky blouse is perfect for those bloated days when tight is not an option but you still want to look put together. Comfortable and flattering, they will never let you down and they can easily be accessorized.

7. A Trench Coat: A trench coat, is light weight, structured, yet comfortable, and is a classic statement in any neutral color. Layer this over just about anything to complete your outfit.

8. Basic Sweater: Crew neck, turtleneck, cold shoulder, or even off the shoulder will all suffice. The key word is simplicity. Solid colors are easiest to accessorize and will never go out of style. A sweater is the perfect go-to item and works well with jeans and just about everything else.

9. Denim Jacket: A basic denim jacket is essential for layering over dresses and with skirts in the spring and cooler summer months. Denim adds cuteness and fun to florals and spring inspired patterns.

10. Fashion Jewelry: Playful and colorful statement necklaces, earrings, and bracelets are a must. They brighten up your wardrobe and will make your outfit pop. Not to mention, a bold necklace works well at drawing attention upward if your midsection is the problem area.

11. Delicate Fine Jewelry/Diamond studs: A gold necklace with a pendant or monogram is the kind of thing you can wear everyday for the rest of your life. Diamond studs, even faux, exude "classy and timeless."

12. A clutch: Everyone needs a clutch for "night life." Whether you are attending a fancy dinner or a wedding, the mom satchel can sit this one out. A decorative clutch or a solid neutral one will accompany you to every event. I promise this will be a wise investment.

13. A Tote: Big enough to pack those extra goldfish, but still appealing to the eye, a good tote will be sturdy enough for everyday wear and tear.

14. An Ankle Bootie: I suggest investing in both black and tan. They are the perfect shoe for everyday and still look amazing for a night out with skinny jeans and a blouse. If you despise heels, opt for a flatter version, which will offer comfort and get you through the chaotic day and maybe have a higher heel on hand for an adult night out!

15. Over the Knee Boots: These have become my favorite trend and I don't anticipate them making an exit anytime soon. Flat or with a heel they just elongate and make every ensemble that much better.

16. A Ballet Flat: Some days (or most) it's simply all about comfort! A flat provides that comfort while still evoking class and style.

17. LBD: This one is a no-brainer. Who doesn't look great in black? It's a must have and should always be hanging in your closet for those last minute occasions.

18. A Basic White Tee: I always find that this is the one item I am constantly scrambling to find. A slub or relaxed fit works well under cardigans, kimonos, blazers, or simply worn alone. Buy these in bulk ladies!!!

19: A Flat Sneaker: Classic kicks are a casual basic that will go with everything from cropped pants to dresses.

20. Cardigans: I can't live without them. Cool and casual they are the layering goddess. Solid colors will match almost anything in your wardrobe.

21. A Moto Jacket: We always think about owning a great leather jacket. Well, stop thinking and just buy it! You won't regret it, especially since you will wear it constantly year after year.

22. A Classic Leather Belt: Yes, our jeans tend to stretch and we rely on a belt to hold them up, but belts really are so much more. They are a great accessory and will surely make your tops and jeans look that much chicer.

23. A Maxi Dress: These flowy dresses are so flattering, not to mention feminine, dainty, and practical. Floral prints are my favorite. A maxi dress will keep you cool and chic at any BBQ or summer event. I can't get enough!

24. A Wedge/Sandal: Summer is upon us. A cute wedge or sandal is a must. Not a flip-flop ladies!! A nicer sandal that will pair well with dresses and shorts and finish off your look. I love a wedge because they offer some height and dress things up a bit while still providing comfort.

25. Black Pants: It's a chic alternative to jeans when you need to look a bit more dressed up.
