Through the Years

It's Prom Season!I am beyond excited to start styling my clients for this monumental teenage moment. In the process, I couldn't help but notice how dissimilar my prom experience was. Girls shop for the "perfect" dress almost the same way a bride would for her gown. Endless stores and gowns are exhausted before settling on "the one." Social media has added a whole new concept as well. Once the chosen dress has been purchased, a picture is added to a Facebook group, so none of the other girls can replicate!! Talk about stressful!!!

I thought it would be fun to reflect back on the ever changing prom styles over the years. My proms were in 1998-1999 and they seem like a century ago. I had been planning for my prom since the age of 5. No exaggeration. Heck, I was that girl who had a full blown wedding at 9. Dress, cake, ceremony and all. I guess you can say my parents allowed me to watch too many John Hughes flicks! Okay, back to the whole prom topic. Go big or go home was our motto. Elaborate and very curly up-do's were all the rage and dark mocha lipstick accompanied with lip liner plastered our lips. We thought our dresses and style were enduring. Boy were we mistaken. Reminiscing, those were some of the greatest memories of my life, however, the pictures make me cringe!

I thought it would be entertaining to post some prom pictures dating back to the 60's and engage in the prom evolution together! Leave a comment with your favorite style! I think it would be compelling to get everyone's perspective and take a stroll down memory lane. Hey, it may even spark a desire to dust off the old gown, buy a corsage, and pop in a cassette tape! If you dare, share your prom styles on my Facebook page. I would love to add them to the Prom Collage!!

My beautiful mom circa 1968. Interesting hairstyle!! I am digging the pink pumps!

Cora Hoch circa 1978. I love this Boho look. Check out the plastic couch covers!!!!!
