My mom is a huge part of my passion for fashion! I grew up admiring her clothes and accessories. She had the innate ability to transform a simple outfit into a masterpiece. She taught me early on, the importance of fashion jewelry and its power. Accessories complete, connect, and unify every look.
I spent many hours playing with her jewelry and piecing things together. I was infatuated and fixated instantly.
My mother dressed me for years. I received compliments and rave reviews for every look, but I yearned for fashion autonomy. Looking back, I appreciate my mom's fashion choices and knack for making me look stylish every day, but like every maturing young women, I was stubborn. I was determined to make my own choices, shop in my own stores, and create my own masterpieces. There were a few fashion bumps along the way and one very poor hair disaster (I dyed my hair jet black), but overall we survived the teenage angst and our fashion bond grew indestructible. With age, admiration, love and respect for my mother immersed deeper.
My mom is the most selfless woman I know. She works tirelessly to support our family, always puts our needs and intentions first, and truly would take the shirt off her back in times of despair. An influential teacher, she has shaped the lives of so many young adults. I am in awe of her work ethic, loyalty, and unconditional love for her family and friends.
Heads turn when she enters a room. She is still the same gorgeous and stylish "mommy" I looked up to and wanted to emulate as a little girl. From jumpers, to maxi dresses, to floral skirts, she rocks it all. Her specialty is adding fun and vibrant jewelry to complete her look. Age appropriate while still remaining on trend, she's a fashion goddess. Her impeccable knack for detail and design works to her advantage as well. She certainly missed her calling as an interior designer or party planner. My wedding is proof of that.
She continues to surprise me every day. My retired (60 something) mother most recently decided to check off #1 on her bucket list. It wasn't skydiving or traveling around Europe but rather performing in a musical. An avid theater buff like myself, she has been traveling to the city for years to see the latest and greatest musicals, marveling in all the talent and dreaming of being on the "big stage." My mother took that inspiration one step further and auditioned for the part of Ursula in her community theater. Talk about guts and courage!! Other than dabbling in a few shows in high school, she has never EVER performed on stage. The "proud daughter" is truly an understatement. She surpassed all my expectations and was absolutely amazing as the role of Ursula. She wholeheartedly embodied her character. She even impressed her granddaughters, which is an impossible feat. My mom left me feeling inspired. The notion of "dream big" and the words "it's never too late" keep rolling around in my head. Her courage speaks volumes and has deeply resonated with me. Stay at Home Stylist wouldn't exist without her. I would be nothing without her.
In honor of Mother's Day, I am unveiling my fashion icon to the world. Mom, thanks for being my best friend and confidant, a stellar role model, and an unrivaled shopping partner. I strive to be half as a good of a mom and fashionista as you!
